Lok Sabha
The Lok Sabha , whose life is five years ,is the Lower House of Parliament and Comprises members directly elected by the people. Every citizen of India, who is 18 years of age and also is not otherwise disqualified, has been given the right to vote. To qualify as a candidate for election to Lok sabha, one must be citizen of India and should be of not less than 25 years of age.
A person is disqualified to contest if
He holds any office of profit under the Government
He is of unsound mind
He is not a citizen of India or has volu8ntarily acquired the citizenship of some foreign state
He is disqualified by or under any law made by Parliament.
The maximum strength of Lok Sabha is 552. The present strength is 545, consisting 530 elected members from the Union Terriotories, in addition to 2 anglo Indian members who are nominated by the President. Provision also exists for the reservation of seats for schedule cast and Schedule Tribes . Ate present 82 seats are reversed for Schedule Casts and 49 for schedule Tribes. the membership from the States is on the basis of their population. For this purpose, each state is divided into constituencies.
The Lok sabha elects two of its members to be its Speaker and Deputy Speaker
