1. 20 liters of a mixtures contains milk and water in the ratio 5:3. if 4 liters of this mixture be replaced by 4 liters of milk, the ratio of milk to water in the new mixture would be ?
Solution : Math for CGL SBI Railway Exam 2016
Rest of the mixture = 20 - 4 = 16 lit.
then, milk = (16/8) x 5 = 10 lit.
and water = (16/8) x 3 = 6 lit.
When milk is added then milk is 14 & water is same as 6
then milk : water = 7 : 3
2. When an article was sold for Rs.696, percent profit earned was P%. When the same article sold for Rs.841 percent profit earned was (p+25%). what is the value of P.
Solution :
Difference in Profit Percent
25% = 841 - 696
25% = 145
CP = 100% = (145/25) x 100 = 580
Then Profit = 696 - 580 = 116
3. Kapil can row a certain distance downstream in 8 hours and upstream the distance in 10 hours, If the stream flows rate at of 4 km / hour then Find the speed of Kapil in still water ?
Solution :
Speed x time Speed x Time
(X+4) × 8 = (X - 4) × 10
8x + 32 = 10x – 40
40 + 32 = 10x – 8x
72 = 2x
x = 36 km/hr.
4. Sangeeta purchased an item of Rs.4800 and sold it at the loss of 20%. From that amount she purchased another item and sold it at the profit of 25%. What is her overall gain/loss ?
Solution :
20 + 25 + [(-20) x 25] / 100
= 5 - 5
0%
No profit No loss
5. A man reaches at 10 AM from P to Q when his average speed is 15 km/hr and reaches at 12 noon when the average speed is 10 km/hr. What should be the average speed to reach at 9 AM ?
Solution :
average speed = 2xy/x+y
= (2x15x10) / (10+15)
= 12 km/hr
